Michael Torguson, M.S., M.A., is an ethicist and education advisor. Mr. Torguson has been an educator in the Rogue Valley for more than 20 years, specializing in community education and incarcerated populations. He has taught for Medford School District, Rogue Community College, Southern Oregon University, and Asante Health Systems. During his tenure as co-chair of education and policy for the Rogue Regional Medical Center Bioethics Committee, Mr. Torguson wrote and revised hospital policies for end-of-life care, advance medical directives, and allocation of hospital resources during mass casualty events. With a background in media and communications, Mr. Torguson has extensive airtime in the Rogue Valley television and radio market, and is called upon frequently for analysis and commentary, facilitation for civic and political events, and special media events such as national candidate rallies. His paper, “Oregon’s Death with Dignity Act: A Legal History,” was published in the winter 2005 edition of Bioethics Bulletin.
Mr. Torguson is a licensed teacher in the State of Oregon in Business Education and Social Science, and in the State of Hawaii in Social Science. When he is not teaching or talking with the media he is the Voice of the South Medford High School Panthers. Mr. Torguson holds an M.A. in Bioethics from Medical College of Wisconsin, and an M.S. in Education from Southern Oregon University.
